Speaking to , Melo said, "Unfortunately, the cycle has come to an end, his mind is elsewhere, we gave him the freedom to choose, may he be happy. He’s heading to Paris."

The Blues were keen on adding the talented midfielder to their roster in the upcoming transfer window and had reportedly offered €20m (£17m/$22m) which was rejected by the Brazilian club. PSG later came up with a bid of €25m (£21m/$27) which sealed the deal in their favour.
