The Spanish midfielder saw the 2023-23 campaign end prematurely in April after being advised to go under the knife to eliminate a recurring hip problem. Alcantara had been out of action since then but he did resume training before the Chelsea fixture on January 31 and has been gradually turning up the heat to expedite his return.

Alcantara was spotted aiming for goal in several drills and he hit the bull's eye with each one of his attempts. He was expected to return in the initial phase of the 2023-24 season but that has not been the case as he suffered a few setbacks in his recuperation regimen which stretched his recovery period.

Liverpool's clash against Arsenal on Sunday might be too soon for the midfielder but it is expected that he might be included in the matchday squad against Burnley on February 10.
